Do you know how to prepare octopus?
It is true that most octopus sold in supermarkets are already processed or pre-cooked. Do you know how to cook it?
They have processed the eyes, ink, and entrails, but I don't know how to cut the octopus head, beak, or legs. If you've never done it before, here's how to properly prepare them.
Body
Arrange the octopus on a large cookie sheet. Cut off the head just above the tentacles with a knife, halve the head lengthwise, and remove the ink sac and guts.
Beak.
Turn the tentacle group inside out, pinch the center and push the beak out. Carefully cut off the beak and discard.
Legs
Use sturdy kitchen shears to detach and separate the tentacles. Wash in cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
If you don't like touching them
Wear gloves, but still resist touching it because of its elusive texture. Some people may be reluctant to touch it because of its elusive feel.
But once you do it, it's nothing to worry about. Once you get used to it, you'll be fine!
Once the legs are drained and finished, they can be battered and deep fried, simmered with soy sauce, or enjoyed as a takoyaki with the family. Enjoy the octopus!
It's such a pain in the ass to process them! If this is the case, buy a pre-cooked octopus in small pieces or ask the fishmonger to cut it for you.
